How to Update Norton 360
Norton 360 automatically downloads virus updates and minor program upgrades using the Internet connection.
Thanks to these updates, your Norton 360 delivers protection against zero-day threats and newly emerging viruses that surface all over the world every couple of minutes.
In order to fully benefit from the automatic updates, a working Internet connection is required. Make sure to keep your computer connected to the Internet at all times, otherwise LiveUpdate won't be able to download Norton 360 updates.
Operating Norton LiveUpdate
LiveUpdate included in Norton 360 ensures continuous protection against new viruses by automatic download of the required update files. Every time a new virus is discovered by Symantec engineers, they include a new virus signature in the update files that are downloaded to your computer within a couple of minutes. This new feature called Pulse Updates appeared in Norton 360 Version 3.0 and ensures that updates are downloaded every 5 to 15 minutes in a fully automated fashion.
Checking for updates manually
If you don't have a permanent Internet connection and wish to update your virus definitions manually whilst online open the Norton 360 Main Window, hover mouse pointer over PC Security and click Check for Updates. Your updates will be downloaded for you. Now you can disconnect from the Internet.
Turning LiveUpdate On and Off
LiveUpdate is turned on by default. If for some reason you wish to switch it off follow these steps:
- Go to Norton 360 Main Window and click Settings
- Go to Quick Controls and uncheck the Automatic LiveUpdate box
- Select the duration from the drop-down and click OK
To re-enable Automatic LiveUpdate simply check the option listed in step 2 and click OK again.
