How to Configure Proxy Server Settings in Norton 360

Norton 360 can be configured to take full advantage of a network proxy. This guide explains how to configure a proxy server settings with Norton 360.

Proxy servers are often used in local networks to cache Web downloads and to prevent direct connections to external hosts for security reasons.

If your Norton 360 doesn't update automatically via LiveUpdate or other download problems occur, chances are you are connecting through a proxy server for which Norton hasn't been configured. This guide will help you to resolve the proxy connection problem.

Norton 360 provides an easy-to-use interface to configure the application for a proxy connection. You can specify HTTP connection settings for LiveUpdate, including port, proxy address and proxy authentication details there.

Configure the Proxy Server in Norton 360

Without proper configuration of your proxy server, Norton 360 won't be able to download updates via LiveUpdate.

To configure proxy settings in Norton 360 follow these steps:

  1. Open Norton 360 Main Window and click Settings
  2. Click Administrative Settings under Detailed Settings
  3. Go to the Network Proxy Settings row and click Configure
  4. Select Use a proxy server for HTTP connections in the Network Proxy Settings
  5. Enter the HTTP address and port number
  6. If your proxy requires authentication, click I need authorization to connect through my firewall or proxy server. Now enter your username and password
  7. Click OK to confirm your settings

Norton 360 is now configured for the proxy server. To check Internet connectivity, you might want to run LiveUpdate manually.
